News and Announcements

CLFHA will be having a casino on June 4th and 5th as part of the fundraising efforts for the turf replacement at U of C.

The document 2018_CLFHA_Casino_Volunteers_June_4_5_Final.xlsx was attached to this post.

Hawkings Field is being re-carpeted during the summer of 2018. We are now set up to take donations directly to this project, and U of C will provide you with a tax receipt . Please follow the link below to donate to this project!

This project is going to cost $1.4 million dollars, and is not possible without the support of all members of the Field Hockey Community. We are working closely with the University of Calgary during this project, and they have created an online donation link for us (which will also allow you to receive a tax receipt)!

For example, if 400 CLFHA players all donated $25 dollars, we would have an additional $10,000 to put towards the turf! Any and all donations will help us reach our funding goals and get our new turf! Please feel free to share this link with anyone who may like to make a donation (family, friends, past players, etc.).

If you have any questions regarding the turf, this project, or would like to help out in some way, please contact Debi Seaman (

Thank you in advance for your support for this project!

There were 6 returning players this year, but Spartans went young again this year with half of the team under the age of 16. The team had a great season, finishing the regular season with a 9 – 2 record. Spartans battled Thunder in the semi-finals and prevailed with a 3 – 0 win. In the Junior Division Gold Medal Match, it was a hard-fought match against Cubs. The teams were evenly matched and the winner would be determined by which team would make the fewest mistakes. Late in the second half, with the score knotted at 1 – 1, an opportunistic Cubs forward pounced on a passing error out of the defense to get the go ahead goal. This would be the deciding goal, even as Spartans pressed and generated some quality scoring opportunities at the end of the match. Nevertheless, it was an awesome season for the team with a silver finish!

It was a hard-fought tactical and physical battle, but TNT prevailed with a 1 – 0 win over Phoenix Black in the 2018 Indoor Division I Gold Medal Match. Despite a shortened roster from Fall to Winter (going from 11 team members to 8), the crew maintained a spotless record going 14 – 0 during the regular season. During semi-finals, action started out slow, but TNT picked up steam during the match enroute to a 7-2 win over Cougars-I. The “old gals” still had something in the tank!

Astros Selects steadily improved over the weekend and came in 3rd after the round robin on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, the team started strong with a win over Cougars-Black in the semi-final match to earn a berth against Dinos Alumni in the finals. In the Gold Medal match, Dinos Alumni scored in the first half (courtesy of Jenny Gobin, who also plays in our club’s TNT team) and in spite a valiant effort, our Astros Selects weren’t able to get the equalizer .

Nevertheless, this was an awesome result for the crew and it was a fun event for a combined Astros team comprised of players from TNT, Sonics, Astros, and Stars.

TEAM MEMBERS: Nikki Campbell (GK-Sonics), Steph Tench (Stars/Sonics), Ashley Codd (Stars), Jess Davis (Stars/Sonics), Laura Waller (Sonics), Peggy Seto (TNT), Nicole White (Astros), Maddie Romeril (Astros), Erin Roberts (Titans/Sonics), Melinda Bretzer (Astros/TNT), Chrissy Kilroe (Astros)
